The Indira Gandhi National Open University has published the IGNOU Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing admission notification on its official website for January 2020 session.

The IGNOU OPENNET VIII entrance examination will be expected to be conducted in the months of October/ Novemeber 2019 to shortlist candidates for admission in this programme.

About IGNOU Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing Programme

The IGNOU offers admission to its Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (BSCN(PB)) programme every year during the January academic cycle. The admission to this discipline is purely on the basis of merit obtained in the OPENNET Entrance examination which is conducted by university every year in the month of August mostly on Sunday.

After declaration of OPENNET entrance exam result, the university short list the candidates for counselling sessions to allot seats to them. The counselling may be conducted as 1st, 2nd or 3rd depending upon the students attendance during the process. The students who appear in the counselling has been allotted seats on basis of rank obtained in the entrance examination.

Programme Objective

The main objective behind the introduction of this discipline is to provide an educational opportunity to a large segment of in-service nurse to enhance their knowledge and skills so that they can respond to the challenging health needs of the society.

Also, the demand for high qualified and trained nurses has been increasing and it can be fulfilled via this programme. After completing the degree, they will be able to provide quality care in the hospitals or clinics. IGNOU Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing Programme Details

Eligibility Criteria

The In-service Nurses i.e registered nurses and registered midwives (RNRM) having 10+2 with 3 years Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) with minimum of 2 years experience in the profession. (For males nurses who have not done midwifery in the GNM programme should have a certificate in any of the nursing courses of 6-9 month duration prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council in lieu of midwifery)   OR

In-service Nurses (RNRM) having 10th class (Matriculation) or its equivalent with three year Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) with minimum of five years experience in the profession.(For male nurses who have not done midwifery in the GNM programme should have a certificate in any of the nursing courses of 6-9 month duration prescribed by the Indian Nursing Council in lieu of midwifery).

Duration of Programme

The students has the minimum duration of 3 years and maximum duration to 5 years to complete this certificate programme. If not completed on time, the students has to take re-admission and submit the fees again.

Fee Structure

The students need to pay the fee charges of Rs.54,000/- which has to be paid @Rs 18,000/- per annum. Please confirm the fees with the nearest regional centre as it may change with the course of time.
