IGNOU BA Admission 2019

IGNOU BA Admission 2019 – The Indira Gandhi National Open University offers admission to BA programme in both January and July academic cycles. The full name of this programme is Bachelor of Arts. The discipline has been developed by the School of Social Sciences (SOSS), IGNOU.

IGNOU BA Admission Jan 2019 has been started. Apply for admission in IGNOU Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme online.

There are two ways to pursue IGNOU BA programme i.e. BA Major or BA General. BA Major in IGNOU is available in English, Hindi, Urdu, Economics, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy and Mathematics. It is useful for those who wants to do in-depth study of any particular discipline.

On the other hand, student can choose to pursue BA General if he/she doesn’t want to specialize in any particular discipline.Choosing BA Major or BA Minor depends on the number of credits student select while applying for admission and re-registration of 2nd and 3rd year.

So, the students are advised to be careful while choosing their disciplines while taking admission.If he/she is not able to understand the process of choosing the courses, then he/she should visit nearest IGNOU Regional Centre to consult more about it.

The programme comes under the category of Bachelor Degree Programmes (BDP).

To evaluate the students, the university conducts the term end examination in June and December. Students can download the IGNOU BA online exam form to apply for examination.

Who can apply for admission in IGNOU BA programme?

The students who want to pursue their graduation in the field of Arts and do not have any formal qualification of 10+2 or it equivalent can also take admission in BA Programme. Such students can apply for the Ignou BA admission after completing the Bachelor Preparatory Programme(BPP) from the university.

The university has also introduced an Online Admission portal for learners so that they can easily apply for admission by sitting at home in front of their computers.The learners who wish to pursue this distance learning programme can fill up IGNOU BA online admission form by visiting at university official web portal.

Medium of Instruction

Students can pursue BA programme in any of English or Hindi medium of instruction.

Eligibility Criteria

The learner seeking admission to Bachelor’s degree in Commerce should be having 10+2 or its equivalent qualification. The learners who do not have completed the 10+2 for any reason but they have completed the Ignou Bachelors Preparatory Programme (BPP) are also eligible for admission.

Fee Structure

The students need to pay Rs. 7,200/- for the complete programme which has to be paid year wise @Rs. 2,400/- per year.

Duration of Programme

The university provides a minimum time duration of 3 years and maximum duration of 6 years to complete this Bachelor degree programme. If not completed on time, the students have to take re-admission and submit the fees again.

The students will be awarded the BA degree only when they earn 96 credit points from three categories of courses – Foundation courses, Elective Courses and Application-Oriented Courses.The student who successfully completes 48 credits in any one discipline will be awarded the BA Major Degree, whereas the other students will be awarded, BA General Degree.

IGNOU BA Syllabus & Courses

The learner needs to complete 96 credits in minimum 3 years with 32 credits per year to obtain the Bachelor Degree in Arts. Here one credit is equal to 30 hours of learners study time.

After completing this Under Graduate programme, the students can pursue the higher education and take admission in Master of Arts(MA). The students need to choose the courses from three categories to complete their total of 96 credits. These three categories of courses are :

All the BDP students need to study an awareness course on environment entitled -‘An Introduction to the Environment’ (NEV1) apart from the courses mentioned above.

No examination will be conducted for this awareness programme. The university offers BA in Hindi, English, Urdu, Political Science, History, Economics, Public Administration, Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, Rural Development.

How to Choose Courses for IGNOU BA programme?

In order to enable you to complete Bachelor of arts Programme within the minimum period of three years, you are allowed to take courses worth 32 credits in each year.

  • In the first year of study, you should take the prescribed credits in Foundation Courses (BSHF 101, FEG 1 or FHD 2 and FEG 2 or any one of MILs or FST 1), and the remaining credits in Elective Courses.
  • In the second year you should take the remaining credits of Foundation Course and Elective Courses.
  • In the third year you should take 16 or 24 credits in Elective Courses and 16 or 8 credits in Application Oriented Courses.

IGNOU BA Foundation Courses

In this category of courses, you have to choose from the following:

  • FEG 1 or FHD 2
  • FEG 2 or BHDF 1 or any one of the listed Modern Indian Languages.
  • BSHF 101 (Foundation Course in Humanities and Social Sciences), and FST 1 (Foundation Course in Science and Technology) are compulsory, in first and second year of study respectively.

IGNOU BA Elective Courses

The main task is to select elective courses. Please remember that as a learner in an Open University you have this unique opportunity of free choice of courses. You must have noticed that the list of elective courses is very big and you have to choose courses worth 56 or 64 credits from this group.

However, if you want to choose mathematics, we strongly recommend that you should have studied mathematics as one of the subjects at 10 + 2 level. If you want elective courses in a particular discipline you must take a minimum of 8 credits and a maximum of 48 credits in that discipline.

These courses would be available to you in a phased manner i.e. some would be available in the first year, a few more would be available in the second year and the remaining in the third year. This phasing has been done for the convenience of counselling and examination. In this scheme all the elective courses have been divided into 6 groups:

Only Group 1 and 2 courses are available in the first year. In the first year you have to choose courses worth 16 Credits only from elective courses. Select 8 Credits from each group. Elective Courses from rest of the group would be offered in second and third year.

You should offer elective courses in such a way that overlapping is avoided i.e. you should offer courses of 8 credits from Group 1 and 8 credits from Group 2.

(Learners who successfully complete 48 credits in any one discipline will be given a B.A. major degree after completion of 96 credits whereas others will be awarded B.A General Degree). However, for a B.A.(Major) degree in Mathematics, learner should complete 40 credits including MTE1, MTE2,MTE4 and MTE9 (in all worth 28 credits)
Mathematics elective courses are offered to BA/B.Com students as well. However, these courses should not be opted by students coming to B.A. through BPP. It is strongly recommended that only those students who have studied Mathematics as a subject in 10+2 should opt for the Mathematics electives.

Note:
MTE1 is a pre-requisite for MTE7 to MTE10.
MTE7 is a pre-requisite for MTE11.
MTE7 is a co-requisite for MTE8.
MTE8 is a pre-requisite for MTE14.

Co-requisite and pre-requisite courses refer to the courses which the learners are strongly advised to register for and complete, so that the related courses could be studied easily. Otherwise, it is not a compulsory directive. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you opt for these courses as advised.

IGNOU will try to make every effort to conduct Laboratory Courses in the programme at the Study Centre chosen by you. But in case of any difficulty, you may be advised to attend the Laboratory Courses at some other Study Centre. You should be prepared for such a situation.

IGNOU BA Application Oriented Courses

The third component of the Bachelor’s Degree programme comprises Application Oriented Courses. These courses are developed to equip you in some areas of your choice, which requires applications of skills. In the third year you have to take courses worth 8 or 16 credits from this group. While selecting these courses make sure that they are of use to you in the profession, you are working in or intend to take up in future.

You must select at least 8 credits worth of courses from this group. You are allowed to select a maximum of 16 credits from this group. If you have opted for a total of 64 credits in elective courses, you should take only 8 credits under Application Oriented Courses. Alternatively, if you have taken only 56 credits in elective courses, you are allowed to take 16 credits in Application Oriented Courses.The detailed list of the Application Oriented Courses currently available is given below.

*Commerce based Application-oriented Courses. However, students are free to choose any Application-oriented Course(s) of their choice. Among 4 credit Application Oriented Courses, they have to choose at least two 4 credit courses to make up 8 credits in total.

** All these courses have a theory component of 6 credits and a project/Lab component of 2 credits. The project is to be submitted in SED at IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068.

*** +2 level of mathematics is a pre-requisite.

+ CHE1, CHE 2 and CHE 3(L) are pre-requisite for this course. This course is only for those who have studied Chemistry up to 10+2 level.

Students are free to choose any Application Oriented Course from the list given above subject to fulfilment of prerequisites. However, they have to opt at least two 4 credit courses to make up 8 credits in total.

IGNOU BA Exam Form

IGNOU BA Online Exam Form

In Indira Gandhi National Open University, the students who are pursuing Bachelor of arts programme have to appear in the term end examination after every one year or six months to complete their Bachelor Degree. Therefore, the students have to fill up examination form to appear in the Term-End Examination.

Note: Earlier, the students have option to fill up IGNOU BA exam form by offline mode and submit it to Regional Centre. But now, they have to fill up application form online on the university official website.

Fill Up IGNOU BA Exam Form Online

To make it easier for students, the university has also started the process to accept the application form online.Therefore, the students can fill up Ignou BA Online exam form to appear in the upcoming examination.

Before, submitting the exam form online, it is important that the students must have submitted the required number of solved assignments in their study centre concerned before the due date.

Sometimes, the online exam form link may be down due to some technical issues. In this case, you have to wait for sometime before trying again.

There are few instructions and guidelines mentioned on the examination form which every student must follow while filling it.

Students must fill up their enrollment number, programme code, course code correctly in the Ignou BA exam form. The form is liked to be rejected if the student do not fill up the details correctly. He/ She will not be allowed to appear in the Term-end Examination. Also, no hall ticket will be issued to such students.

IGNOU BA Exam Fees – In Indira Gandhi National Open University, students have to pay Rs.120/- per course as the examination fee. For example, if you have to appear in examination for four courses, then you have to pay sum of Rs.480/-.

In case of filling IGNOU BA exam form online, the students has to pay their exam fee via online payment system i.e. by using their Credit or Debit Card.

The students filling up the exam form by offline method has to pay the examination fee in the form of demand daft only. The demand draft has to be made in the favour of IGNOU, payable at the city of regional centre where submitting the form.
